Back in 1999 the MK4 Golf GTi was released to the hot hatch hungry public as a replacement to the fatter and slower MK3 GTi.
The car was quite impressive to say the least, equipped with the sexiest Recaro leather interior ever seen in a production car, blue li dials and an 1800 20V turbo motor. .
The cars performance was back up to original GTi hot hatch spec dominating the market like the MK2 2.0 16V Golf did.
With a power output of 110 Kw (at the flywheel) the car had very impressive specs.
The main reason the car was so desirable was the ride comfort, which is still one of the best available today.
The setup of the turbo was done in such a way that you couldn't really feel it "kick in" it just pulled through the whole rev range.
The peak recorded torque figure was reached at 1750 rpm and could be maintained right through to a maximum of 4600 rpm
VW's target market is the new category of the young and upcoming professional (yuppie), basically all the guys making good money in the IT industry and new young graduates.
The sales of the car pretty much speak for themselves; the car was only available on waiting lists for ages. Now the brains at Steves Auto Clinic have decided that the hot hatch should be just that little bit hotter.
After a sitting at the drawing board, they have come up with an affordable upgrade package for the GTi.

If you're on of these new professionals driving the GTi, this affordable power upgrade package is definately aimed at you.
The upgrade improves the power of the hatch greatly, adding about 20Kw more to the wheel power.
A stock GTi manages a dyno readout in the region of 100Kw at the wheels, the SAC tuned VEEdub can push that as high as 125Kw!
Once you decide on this conversion (and let's face it,you'd be a plonker if you didn't!), The process starts by taking your GTi to any one of the Steves Auto Clinic branches nationwide.
They'll book your car in and immediately start their modifying process.
First of, they'll attack your cars electronic control unit (ECU) and add a Unichip piggyback computer into the whole equation.
With this now they can set up you timing and CO levels properly, ensuring maximum performance.
After that they'll add an SAC Custom built performance Exhaust system throughout the length in pretty and shiny stainless steel.
Under the hood the airbox sees a mod or two to make sure that your filtration process is a clean and efficient one.
To keep the new setup nice and cool, they'll the add an SAC twin Intercooler system that's proven to be efficient in dropping the operating temperatures of a Turbo car.  
The last step is to set the unichip properly while on one of their dynamometers. Your car will no longer just be a GTi, it will now be known as GTi-S and they'll even give you a custom badge to slap on your car's arse, not forgetting the SAC Why Worry Warranty covering six months or 20 000Km of driving!  
Comparing to the standard stats, the car is obviously running with the power claimed by SAC, yet at the same time, none of the car's creature comforts have been compromised.
The car even still uses 93 octane unleaded pump fuel, the fuel is powered to the injectors with the use of the standard fuel pump too.If do happen to own one of these cars and have in the region of R12 000 to spend on YOUR pride and joy, you should definately take it to one of the SAC BRANCHES, it'll be well worth your while.
Any normal person should want a power upgrade for their car, especially one that maintains reliability at the same time and without compromising fuel economy.
